Billing and Payment

KU•ePay is Kettering University’s online billing and payment service, which provides the ability to view and pay a student account bill online, 24 hours/day, seven days a week.

Students may authorize others to access their KU•ePay account and make payments on their behalf.  Such individuals are referred to as "Authorized Users." Examples of authorized users may include parent, guardian, spouse, grandparent and other family/non-family members. Authorized Users have similar functions as students to view billing and payment history, however, they cannot edit their own Authorized User account or set up other authorized users.

With KU•ePay, students are able to:

    • View student account activity
    • View billing statements and history
    • Pay their student account bill online
    • Authorize parents or others to view and/or pay their university bill online
    • Obtain 1098-T tax forms

    Additional Information

Paying In Person or By Mail

Payment in the form of cash, personal check or money order may be made in person at the Student Accounts Office during normal business hours or deposited at any time in the Student Accounts drop box (located outside the Student Accounts Office). Cash payments are only accepted in U.S. dollars. Checks and money orders must be in U.S. dollars, drawn on a U.S. bank and must be payable to “Kettering University”. Payment must include the student’s identification number to ensure credit to the student’s account. Post-dated checks (checks with future dates) cannot be accepted.

If payment is mailed, please allow at least 10 business days for standard U.S. Postal Service delivery prior to the due date. Please check your student account to verify your payment was received.

    Mail payments to:

    Kettering University
    Student Accounts
    1700 University Ave
    Flint, Michigan 48504

A $25 charge will be assessed to the student account for all returned checks, money orders and ACH transactions. In addition, returned checks, money orders and ACH transactions related to hold releases and registration will result in dis-enrollment.

Receipts cannot be mailed. Receipts will not be issued for payments not made in person.

Kettering University’s preferred method of payment is online through KU•ePay. In an effort to reduce the risk of carrying cash or paper checks on campus grounds, we recommend using KU•ePay, which offers online payment using a standard checking or savings account held at a U.S. Bank at no fee. This payment method requires you to enter the bank account and routing number and will be processed as an ACH transaction. Online payment by credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express) may be made. A 2.85% non-refundable service fee will apply to all credit card transactions. Credit card payments will only be accepted at no fee in person for non-tuition and related fees/charges, such as parking fines, library fines and graduation fees. As soon as the online payment process is completed, the payment will be posted to the student account in real time. However, please note that in the case of system outages, online payments will be posted in a batch update process by the evening of the next business day. Also, if there is a financial hold, the hold will be released once the process completes, provided the payment satisfies the amount of the hold.

For individualized assistance, contact the Student Accounts Office.

Kettering University accepts payments in person of cash, personal checks, cashier check and money orders. Online payment options are electronic checks (ACH for no fee) or credit cards (MasterCard, Discover, Visa and American Express) via TouchNet PayPath, a third party online payment service.

Once you are logged into KU•ePay, you can view financial history by term by selecting “Account Activity” from the “My Account” drop down menu. Click on the desired term, and detailed term activity will be viewable. Options are available to print, download in Excel format or create a .pdf file of the activity.

    1. Log into KU•ePay (via student or authorized user buttons on this page).
    2. From the top menu, select MAKE PAYMENT.
    3. Select your payment term and confirm the amount to pay (you may edit the value enclosed in the box to the far right).
    4. Select the desired payment method: Credit Card via PayPath, Electronic Check (checking/savings account), or bank wire.
    5. Enter your banking information and authorize payments as instructed.

Those wishing to make payments to the student account via wire transfer should do so using Western Business Solutions through KU•ePay. This option allows the student and authorized users to pay the student account balance in the local currency and provides a simple and secure way of initiating a payment electronically.

NOTE: The Student Accounts Office cannot accept a wire transfer in excess of the amount due on the student account. If a transfer is received that is in excess of the account balance, the excess amount may be returned to the sender. (Families wanting to provide their student with funds for living expenses should transfer funds directly to the student’s personal bank account).

What are the benefits of using the Western Union Business Solutions option?

    Convenience

    • You make payments in the currency of your choice, and this amount is then converted to U.S. dollars.
    • The exchange rate quote is locked in for your payment for three (3) business days after the quote is obtained.

    Savings

    • The exchange rate is very competitive when compared to your financial institution’s retail rates, and bank service fees may be reduced since the wire transfer that you initiate is a local transfer.
    • There are no transaction charges from Western Union Business Solutions or Kettering University, though you may be charged a transaction fee by your bank.

    Efficient and Timely Posting

    • Payments include your reference information to ensure your payment reaches your Kettering student account quickly. The transaction will appear in “pending” status on the student account until the funds are received by Kettering.

Where can I see the list of currencies that are available?

Once in KU•ePay, in the drop down menu for "Make Payment," enter the amount you wish to pay and click CONTINUE. Next, select method from the drop down menu. For international payments, select BANK Wire and click continue. From there, follow the instructions.

How much am I able to send?

The amount being transferred to Kettering University should be for tuition, fees and other charges on your student account. Tuition and fee charges are billed in accordance with the academic terms and are expected to be paid in a timely manner. Refer to KU•ePay for the most current balance on your student account.

What if I want to wire money to the student?

A family wanting to wire money to the student should transfer the funds directly to the student’s personal bank account. Amounts in excess of the balance due on the student cannot be refunded to the student and will be returned to the sender.

Kettering University provides an option for students and authorized users to pay current tuition and related term charges on an installment plan. Students enrolled in the installment plan will have their tuition and fees divided into up to four (4) equal installments, depending on enrollment date and each will be due on fixed dates once per month. Students and Authorized Users may enroll in the Payment Plan through KU•ePay.

    Eligibility

Any Kettering undergraduate or graduate student is eligible to participate in the Payment Plan. Enrollment in the Payment Plan is not automatic. A student must be enrolled in the Payment plan on a term basis.

NOTE: Enrollment in a payment plan is not automatic for current participants. A student MUST be re-enrolled in a payment plan on a term basis.

    Qualifying Expenses

The following expenses may be budgeted using the Payment Plan:

    • Tuition
    • Room
    • Meal Plan

    Billing/Payment

When enrolled in a payment plan, you are expected to submit your established installment payment by the specified due date.

    Enrollment Fee

There is a non-refundable enrollment fee charged each term. The current enrollment fee is $45.00 per term.

    Cancellation of the Payment Plan

The installment may be canceled by the student or an authorized user at any time without penalty. Any payments made on the payment plan will be applied to your outstanding charges. Once a payment plan has been cancelled, the normal Kettering financial regulations and payment schedules will apply.

    Withdrawal from the University

If a student enrolled in a payment plan withdraws from the University, the payment plan will be cancelled and any payments made on the payment plan will be applied to outstanding charges on the student’s account. The normal Kettering University refund policy will apply if application of the payments results in a credit balance on the student's account.

University billing occurs monthly. All tuition and fees charged between billing cycles are displayed in KU•ePay. Failure to receive an official University eStatement does not relieve any student of responsibility for payment by the due dates.

    Types of Student Late Fees

    Late Payment Fees/Financial hold:

    • If full payment of each term tuition and related charges is not received by the due date, a late payment penalty will be assessed.
    • A financial hold will prevent you from registering and/or receiving an official transcript or diploma.

    Penalties for Returned Checks

A returned check fee may be assessed for payments made by check or online electronic payments processed through KU•ePay. Such fees will be posted to the student’s account.

The following rules and penalties apply:

    • A non-refundable $25 administrative fee may be charged for returned checks and online payments through KU•ePay.
    • Payments returned may cause holds to be placed on the student account which block future enrollment, transcripts and diplomas from being issued.

Students are expected to review their bill monthly and pay amounts by the due date.

Unpaid amounts may result in financial holds being placed on the student account which block enrollment in the following term, as well as block diplomas and transcripts immediately.

Additionally, the following may apply to severely delinquent accounts:

    • National credit reporting agencies may be notified.
    • Collection agency placement and/or litigation may occur.
    • Any collection cost, attorney fees and court costs may be the student’s responsibility.

    Collection Activity

After multiple attempts by the Student Accounts Office to collect payment and make payment arrangements with students, delinquent account balances will be subject to the collection process. Students are notified by mail of upcoming collection activity and their options. Failure to communicate about payment after notifications are sent will result in the transfer of the full account balance to an outside collection agency. The student will be responsible for the account balance, in addition to fees and credit penalties assessed by the collection process.

For information about refunds of tuition upon withdrawal from courses, see Tuition Refund Schedule.

Students may request a refund of a credit balance on their student account by contacting the Student Accounts Office.

When logged into KU•ePay, 1098-T forms can be found under MY ACCOUNTS/STATEMENTS.

You will receive an email notification by January 31 informing you that your form is available for viewing.
